Custom Patio Roof

A fresh look…

This custom patio roof project in Middlesex, PA was designed to create a comfortable, protected outdoor space while preserving clear views of the backyard. The homeowners envisioned a cozy, private area centered around a hot tub—one that felt intentional, inviting, and well integrated with the existing patio.

Design & Planning

From the start, this project was planned with sightlines in mind. By limiting the structure to two primary support posts, the patio roof maintains an open, unobstructed view while still delivering the strength required for long-term performance. Layout and proportions were carefully considered to balance openness, privacy, and architectural presence.

Coordination with a separate concrete scope allowed for concrete footings to be installed beneath the patio slab prior to the pour, ensuring the roof structure had a solid foundation without compromising the finished patio surface.

Materials & Construction…

The patio roof was framed using a specialized structural system, including an exterior-rated LVL engineered beam, selected for strength, stability, and clean spans. The roof structure was then finished with full roofing integration, fascia, and guttering to properly manage water and protect the space below.

A cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling was installed to bring warmth and character to the space, elevating the finished look and reinforcing the sense of comfort. A custom privacy wall was also incorporated to create a more enclosed, relaxing environment around the hot tub area.
